AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on achieving desk stability, particularly for computer setups. A common issue raised is desk wobbling, which can be exacerbated by uneven flooring. It is noted that desks often come with large thumb tacks for the corners, primarily to prevent scratching on wood floors. However, their necessity on carpeted surfaces is questioned, as they may not provide significant stability. For those dealing with uneven floors, a desk with adjustable feet is recommended, allowing for customization to ensure a stable setup without the need for makeshift solutions like cardboard. Overall, the focus is on selecting a desk design that accommodates various flooring types and offers stability through adjustable features.

What would you say is the most stable shape of desk.

i have some problems with my desk wobbling. I want to get my computer monitor and desk to be as stable as possible.

If you look closely at the bottom edges of this desk there is 4 huge round thumb tac things.

When you assemble a computer desk often they have four huge thumb tacs to put on each corner of the bottom of the desk.

Should you only use these on wood floors.

If it is on carpet is it unnecessary to put these huge thumb tac things on the bottom?

They only really help to keep the desk from scratching the floor when you move it. Otherwise, if you have an uneven floor and aren't into doing things like stuffing cardboard under the uneven side, or fixing the floor, you should look for something with feet that adjust (i.e., have screws on them that attach to the furniture) so you can account for the uneven floor.

Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
