    Head Pain
In summary, the speaker experienced a sudden and severe headache while sleeping and tried various methods to alleviate the pain, including spraying deodorant on their head. The pain was eventually relieved after a walk and rest on wet grass. The speaker visited a doctor who prescribed tablets and advised them to drink lots of water and juices. The speaker also mentioned feeling inactive and inefficient during classes due to the pain. The doctor did not reveal the diagnosis but prescribed tablets for the headache, fever, and a tranquilizer. The speaker plans to go to the health center for future health concerns.

Guys This is very very serious.

Yesterday the time was 1 o' clock when i logged off and went to sleep. At that time i could sense a little pain building in my head but as i lied down,I was thinking deeply on something, simultaneously the pain was increasing and i believed that it was weird and I guess it followed some Mathematical curve like e^x.But i fell asleep but exactly i got up at 3 O' clock and you won't believe i really felt a great unprecedented pain in my head. I groaned in agony and seriously felt like bursting my head in the wall or jumping Off the floor.   The pain was unbearable and if there would have had an existed such a scale for the pain in head it would have had scaled maximum points.

I could not think what to do,I took 2 tablets of disprin, seriously no affect on pain,i got up and took the oil and seriously applied to my head.Seriously anything wasn't working for me.Then i did something weird,i took out my Deordant "Axe" and sprayed it over my head and Thanks God it was relief. Then after few seconds its effect finished so i kept on spraying it an interval of 1 minutes and after half an hour it finished.I lied down ,the pain still unbearable, but at an lower level.I got up and started walking on the road of Campus. It was like my eyes were closed and i was breathing very deeply and the pain started to decrease in the similar fashion it increased. And after i walked around for an mile,i laid down in the wet grass and felt relieved and after around 10 minutes disappeared and now its 6 O' clock i am back to room and writing here.

Seriously i could not explain you the magnitude of that head pain,i seriously prey to god that nobody ever ever experiences such pain.

Although i am visiting a Doctor today in the evening, but i thought it is necessary to listen to you.Is it says that i have some tumour developing in my head,or due to lack of sleep or excessive thinking. And is it Normal??

The reason why i am asking because i have always been fit and i can't remember any great incident when i fell ill except some physical injuries .

Pain that wakes you from your sleep is never normal. It is good you will see a doctor, because that's exactly the advice I'd have given otherwise. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it turns out to be nothing too serious.

I concure with Monnbear, at this point the Doctor is best.
ummm next time befor spraying your head with body sprays, try the Diving reflex: A rapid slowing of the heart seen in all mammals just after the face is immersed in cold water{65 degrees F}. Just your face, including your chin and forhead.
I suspect the spray cooled your head. And you really don't want to be inhaleing that stuff.

Since you say that the Axe was alleviating the symptoms, I think you should try to make a cold-compress next time.
A few weeks ago I put plastic ice-cubes into a hand towel and placed it over my head during a persistent headache, the cooling effect is really nice and definitely helped for me.
I hope the doc can give you an answer.

Thanks Moonbear,Hypatia and Monique!
I visited the Doctor and he gave me some tablets and said i will be alright.
I tried to ask him details but he did not reveal anything!
Monique yeah that idea of ice came to my mind, but it was not feasible at 3 O' clock. It would have been best if i would have had straight away gone to hospital.
I was very inactive during the whole day ,especially i was feeling insane during my classes and it will the day when my efficiency was minimum in classes ever! :yuck:

So are you getting a follow-up visit? Don't let yourself be sent home without getting some kind of information.

He should tell you what the diagnosis is and what the tablets are for. It may be more difficult to diagnose the problem when you aren't experiencing any symptoms. If you experience anything like that again, have someone take you to the hospital right away instead of waiting until the end of the day.

Pain that can be relieved by a spray of some sort might be a sinus problem. Are your sinuses blocked? Do you have allergies? A head cold? Stuffy nose? Post-nasal drip?

He told me about the tablets-
1 for headpain,1 for fever and 1 tranquilizer!
He also told me to drink lots of water and juices .
Next time i will keep that in mind and also the Health Centre is too near, about 500 m from my hostel,so there won't be much problem.

It looks like I am having the same symptons as you. It usually happens when I stare at the computer for countless hours or if I walk miles under the hot sun for a while. When I get a headache, I usually try to sleep it off, but most of the time it sticks around until the next day. By now, I am sort of used to it; I don't care if I have a tumour or not: as long as I get my work done. My parent says that health is important that education, but I don't buy that.

Dave,
I don't have any sinus problem or allegries.
It was just situation that tended me to use spray, because nothing better seemed to me better solution at that time.

What is the intensity of head pain you experience?
Yeah staring at the computers is one reason, also i think thinking very hard at some occasions leads to severe head pain!
This is the first time i ever experience head pain or rather pain in true sense.

Sometimes, the pain is mild, but two days ago, it was severe. I came home from school at around 10:00 PM, and my head hurt like crazy. It was probably because I didn't have time to eat anything that day. The next day when I woke up, the pain was still there, but it wasn't that instense. Then as the day went by, the headache died down. This has been going on for many years. I don't want to go to the doctor because I have had a bad experience once. In fact in high school, the doctor prescribed me some medicine for stomach and head pain, and I ended up in the E.R. Now, I just ignore my pains.

I have had TERRIBLE migranes before. Headaches so bad I threw up from it,eyes hurt whenever you move them, and muscle trembling.

  • #15
I have suffered recurrent migraines since my early teens.
None of the following had any effect: paracetamol (tylenol?), migraleve (specialist migraine painkiller), immigran (prescription only), beta blockers, anti-depressants.
I am not a fan of asprin and would rather suffer.

However, I have discovered nurofen works very effectively and quickly (strangely non branded ibuprofen does NOT work leading me to believe it may be one of the ingredients in the coating that helps).

There is a reasonably new product out called "4head" it is a menthol based stick that you rub onto your head. I tried it very sceptically and was shocked to find it really works.

This brings me back to tiger balm! Tiger balm rubbed onto the temples can cure headaches and migraines.

It's the one of 3 prescribed to me.
It's indeed very effective and i feel better!
I think it works for all general kind of pains.

One for fever? What's causing the fever? If the headache was from a fever, that would explain why doing things that cooled you off (the spray and lying in cool grass) helped you feel better.

I usually try a shower. I can't stand cold showers so I take a hot one. Generally it makes me feel a bit hazy afterwards but the relatively cooler overall body temperature difference afterwards makes me feel much better.

Sounds like dehydration to me.

dehydration does indeed cause severe headaches.
Although don't go guzzling gallons of water as this will simply dilute your body salts and minerals.
instead try to keep your water intake small but very frequent. If dehydration is a problem then try to take in water containing electrolytes or an isotonic sports drink.

No, I was merely suggesting that, if it were blocked sinuses, the mist of the spray (regardless of what it was) might have altered the PH in your sinuses, causing them to spontaneously open up (rapid change in pressure will do that too, or merely running up and down a flight of stairs). Even a slight opening of your sinuses would have relieved some pressure.

Gentleman, the sinus weren't blocked. As Moonbear mentioned the spray cooled the body.Everything was confined to head only.
I do realize that sinus is one of most common problem in USA.

Since you were given a pill for fever, but not an antibiotic, I would guess your physician determined it is not a sinus infection causing the fever. I would actually expect that if you had a sinus infection, the spray would have been more irritating than helpful and would have made you feel worse rather than better.

Just for informative purposes, a sinus infection is different from allergies. Sinus infections are bacterial and don't have to be related to any prior sinus problems, although people with allergies are more prone to the infections because of the irritation. Allergies that irritate the sinuses can develop over time too, so even if you never had them before, you can acquire them as an adult. An infection of the sinuses can cause very severe headaches, though the pattern is usually very characteristic, and it wouldn't just as quickly go away unless there was something in your room causing irritation and when you got outside, you gradually recovered.

the logic is that the cinus problem can be reduced by decreasing the amount of mucus in the nasal cavity and other 4 areas nearby. we put things more than water like paste of herbs and that makes the mucus non-sticky and flushes it. u will get disgusted by the amount of mucus i take out daily by that :yuck: and it is generally smeared with blood. :frown:
