AI Thread Summary
Starting university on a challenging note can lead to concerns about academic performance and future opportunities, particularly regarding pursuing an Honors program. It's essential to consult with an academic adviser to understand the specific requirements for the desired Honors program and assess the impact of the current semester on eligibility. While initial setbacks can feel discouraging, focusing on improving performance in current courses is crucial. Maintaining a positive mindset and learning from past mistakes can help in overcoming difficulties and achieving academic goals.

I've started Uni on a very bad note, I started unmotivated and lazy and I ended up stuffing up my first semester. Nothing went right for me, and I feel that I mightn't pass everything. My problem is that I want to do Honors but I think that this semester might make this impossible. Is there any truth in this statement or am I fooling myself?

It depends on the institution. What I would suggest is going to your adviser, or you advising office, and asking about this issue. They will be able to tell you the requirements for the specific honors program you wish to get into and whether or not you can still do it.

Don't start worrying and fretting though! Not all is lost. The past is the past. You can't change it, but you can control your future in some respects. Focus on doing well in your current courses, and don't dwell on your previous mistakes, just on how to avoid them in the future. You'll do fine if you keep this attitude, but if you get depressed over the courses you failed, it'll only make things worse. Good Luck to you!

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
