AI Thread Summary
Drake's Equation is a formula used to estimate the number of intelligent civilizations in the Milky Way galaxy with which we might communicate. It breaks down the problem into several factors that can be quantified, making it easier to arrive at an educated guess. The equation considers variables such as the rate of star formation and the fraction of stars with planets. For further details, a practical discussion can be found on Wikipedia. Understanding this equation helps frame the search for extraterrestrial life in a scientific context.

Seriously though, it's an equation that allows you to come up with an educated guess at the number of intelligent civilizations in our galaxy that we might be capable of communicating with, by breaking it down into factors that can be more easily estimated. For a more practical discussion, see e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drake_equation

So I know that electrons are fundamental, there's no 'material' that makes them up, it's like talking about a colour itself rather than a car or a flower. Now protons and neutrons and quarks and whatever other stuff is there fundamentally, I want someone to kind of teach me these, I have a lot of questions that books might not give the answer in the way I understand. Thanks
