AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on verifying the sizes of specific human pituitary proteins, including the glycoprotein hormones alpha chain, variant hepatic nuclear factor 1, human B-actin, and folate receptor alpha. Participants express difficulty in finding accurate molecular weights and active forms of these proteins, with suggestions to consult PubMed for literature and use online tools for predicting molecular weight and post-translational modifications. The glycoprotein hormones alpha chain is noted to have a precursor size of 13041 Da, but the active form remains uncertain. The active form of variant hepatic nuclear factor 1 is questioned at 166 amino acids, while human B-actin and folate receptor alpha's sizes are also confirmed as 41737 Da and 96 amino acids, respectively. Accurate verification of these protein sizes requires thorough literature research and bioinformatics tools.

Can anyone please help me to find the sizes (Da) for these human pituitary proteins? i have looked for them in Entrez and other bioinformatic sites, but am really not sure if they are right. Please, recheck them for me. Thanks a bunch!

1. Glycoprotein hormones alpha chain

i have a vERY hard time with this one. from the Entrez result i only get
Glycoprotein hormones alpha chain precursor form (13041 Da). i need an active form. What is the size?

2. Variant hepatic nuclear factor 1
From entrez i got an active form of 166aa. Is this correct?

3. Human B-actin
active form: 41737 Da. Correct?

4. Folate receptor alpha
active form: 96 aa. Correct?

Thanks ! o:)

I am reading Nicholas Wade's book A Troublesome Inheritance. Please let's not make this thread a critique about the merits or demerits of the book. This thread is my attempt to understanding the evidence that Natural Selection in the human genome was recent and regional. On Page 103 of A Troublesome Inheritance, Wade writes the following: "The regional nature of selection was first made evident in a genomewide scan undertaken by Jonathan Pritchard, a population geneticist at the...
I use ethanol for cleaning glassware and resin 3D prints. The glassware is sometimes used for food. If possible, I'd prefer to only keep one grade of ethanol on hand. I've made sugar mash, but that is hardly the least expensive feedstock for ethanol. I had given some thought to using wheat flour, and for this I would need a source for amylase enzyme (relevant data, but not the core question). I am now considering animal feed that I have access to for 20 cents per pound. This is a...
