What are the benefits of joining a scientific community for students?

My name is John and i am currently studying a bachelor of engineering at ANU and am currently in my first year. I joined this website because of the discussion about homework/problems, giving advice and asking for advice. As i always see results show on google, i thought it might be smart to actually join the community.
