What are the benefits of online forums for scientists?

Per the forum rules, I am introducing myself here as my first post. I love physics! I didn't participate in online forums much while in school, but wish I had. I didn't really know they existed to the extent that they do. I have a lot of catching up to do.

The internet didn't exist when I was at school and was only just getting fired up when I went university
didn't have the opportunity to do research online ... had to resort to the science library at uni.

Hello everyone, I'm Cosmo. I'm an 18 years old student majoring in physics. I found this forum cause I was searching on Google if it's common for physics student to feel like they're in the wrong major in the first semester cause it feels like too much for me to learn the materials even the ones that are considered as "basic math" or "basic physics", I've initial fascination with the universe's mysteries and it disconnect with the reality of intense, foundational mathematics courses required...
