What happened to the "Advanced Physics Forum"?

I get a DNS error for the url "http://www.advancedphysics.org/".

Google doesn't show any news about a shutdown for that site.

Anybody know what's going on?

I doubt that there is a "secret PF plot to take them down," but I am surprised that one here seems to know what happened to them.

Unless we understand why the "Advanced Physics Forum" can disappear without a trace, something similar could happen to any forum, including PF.

Well it was a joke...

Anyhow, there can be a number of reasons a site disappears, ranging from something simple like not paying expenses to something more sinister like a DOS attack causing the host to take them offline and a whole host of other things.

Next to speaking with the admins for the site you'll never know.

It is rare for a site to completely vanish, but there are so many reasons it could happen it just isn't worth speculating over.

We don't need to understand anything, as long as we know the reasons a site may go down, PF can take steps to reduce the chances of it happening.

Exactly!

While I am fond of speculation, in this case, I'd prefer the correct answer from someone who knows. I was just hoping that someone in this forum would know, since there is some overlap in membership.

(While some may disagree, I feel, there was a lot of valuable information archived there.)
