AI Thread Summary
When facing an absence from university due to medical reasons on the day an assignment is due, it's crucial to check the course syllabus for specific policies regarding late submissions. Contacting the professor directly is advisable to discuss the possibility of submitting the assignment the following day. If the absence is known in advance, submitting the assignment early is often a viable option that professors typically accept. Additionally, reviewing the school's student handbook or academic regulations can provide guidance on standard procedures for handling such situations.

Say I am absent from my university for a day for medical reasons, but I have an assignment due that day. Can I hand in my work the next day?

I know it depends on the school and of course the professor, but what should I do if I know I am going to be absent? Should the email the professor asking him if I can submit the assignment the day I get back? Is it usually accepted?

Check the syllabus for that course. They outline procedures for dealing with these sorts of things. The professor will be able to tell you as well if you ask.

If you know you're going to be absent on a certain day, why don't you hand in the assignment a day early? There's no way the professor should have an issue with that?

Yes, get in contact with the professor.

As everyone above has said, ask your professor, and also consult your school's student handbook/academic regulations/official web page to see if there's a standard procedure for such a situation.

I’ve been looking through the curricula of several European theoretical/mathematical physics MSc programs (ETH, Oxford, Cambridge, LMU, ENS Paris, etc), and I’m struck by how little emphasis they place on advanced fundamental courses. Nearly everything seems to be research-adjacent: string theory, quantum field theory, quantum optics, cosmology, soft matter physics, black hole radiation, etc. What I don’t see are the kinds of “second-pass fundamentals” I was hoping for, things like...
TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
