A person in his early 20s becomes mentally very passive, his brains doesn't really work, when he is in a public place such as a university lecture hall. The topic which is an easy task when he is alone becomes a mammoth task when surrounded by others. Could you please help me to identify this condition?

Tourette's Syndrome?

Edit: No, nevermind.

Social anxiety, perhaps?

Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD)?

Agoraphobia?

Social phobia/social anxiety.

Enochiophobia or Ochlophobia

Most all of these suggestions are possible explanations, but when a previously normal young person begins to develop these kinds of symptoms, one should be alert to possible early signs of schizophrenia. I'm not making a diagnosis here. These symptoms are consistent with many less serious conditions. However, a thorough evaluation by qualified professionals is certainly warranted.

You haven't provided any specific symptoms, but even if you had, we cannot provide a diagnosis. Your friend needs to see a doctor if they are concerned.
