What is the Importance of Roll Centers and Rear Suspension in Racing?

I stumbled upon this forum while late night surfing.
The roll center discussion and rear suspension info is just what I was seeking.
I'm a marine mechanic by trade.
Mostly I like reading and listening to racing setup theory you never stop learning or the racing world will pass you by.
