AI Thread Summary
To advance in an engineering career, it is beneficial to explore various fields before specializing, as many universities allow students to delay major declarations until their third year. Engaging in a range of technical classes can help identify personal interests and strengths. Transitioning between disciplines, such as moving from mechanical engineering (ME) to electrical engineering (EE), can be advantageous based on enjoyment and challenge levels. Additionally, pursuing business education, like an MBA, may enhance career progression opportunities. Ultimately, a broad educational foundation can lead to informed decisions about specialization and career advancement.

Well, at many universities in the US, you don't have to declare your major until the start of your 3rd year. So that gives you some time to take a broad choice of (technical) classes to see which you like the most. I actually changed from ME to EE after my first year, based on how much I enjoyed (and was challenged by) my EE and programming classes.

business (MBA, etc), if you ever want to climb the ladder
