AI Thread Summary
Heating an SCR can affect its performance, potentially causing it to turn on at a lower breakover voltage than specified. The discussion clarifies that SCRs operate based on breakover voltage, not breakdown voltage. Participants suggest reviewing SCR datasheets to understand the temperature dependencies illustrated in their graphs. This analysis is crucial for understanding how temperature influences SCR behavior. Overall, the impact of heating on SCR functionality is significant and warrants careful consideration.

vvkannan, what do you think will happen? And what do you mean by "breakdown voltage"? SCRs do not work on a breakdown principle.

Why don't you take a look at some typical SCR datasheets, and tell us what you see in terms of temperature-dependencies in the graphs in the datasheets. Then we can discuss what you are asking about.

I thought about it but i felt it will not fit into homework questionS category.Sorry for the mistake.
Its not 'breakdown' as i had mentioned. Its 'breakover'.sorry
