SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on self-teaching resources for Electrical Engineering (EE) basics, emphasizing the importance of foundational topics such as Basic Circuit Theory and Digital Electronics. A recommended resource is the NEETS (Naval Education and Training Command) website, which provides comprehensive information on electronics. Participants highlight the significance of math and chemistry as challenging subjects, suggesting that prospective students should prepare in these areas as well. Engaging in hands-on experimentation is encouraged to reinforce learning.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic Circuit Theory
  • Digital Electronics
  • Mathematics for Engineers
  • Chemistry Fundamentals
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore the NEETS website for foundational electronics knowledge
  • Study Basic Circuit Theory through online courses or textbooks
  • Learn Digital Electronics concepts via tutorials or practical projects
  • Review mathematics and chemistry resources relevant to engineering
USEFUL FOR

Prospective Electrical Engineering students, self-learners in electronics, and anyone preparing for college-level engineering courses.

Hello,

I am going to college in a couple months (next semester after summer). I want to know where I can self-teach myself some basics to get a head start.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

I would start here to get a general idea of what information needs to be studied: http://www.hep.uiuc.edu/home/sibert/NEETS/index.htm

Look at your classes - the hardest ones are probably not the EE classes - Math & Chemistry were my challenges. But then I had been playing with electronics since I was 12 yrs and had two years of electronics in HS ( I went the vocational route - until I realized it was not challenging enough).
As for EE related - study the foundation topics - Basic Circuit Theory and perhaps Digital Electronics - they are pretty easy to learn on your own - and experiment with at home.
