AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on exploring male and female mating behaviors across various species, including humans. Participants suggest searching for "mating behavior" for comprehensive insights. Notable examples include the mating rituals of C. elegans roundworms and the extreme cases of sexual cannibalism in some spider species, where females may consume males post-mating. The female praying mantis is highlighted for its unique behavior of decapitating the male, which can enhance mating success by removing inhibiting neural signals. A recommended resource is "Dr. Tatiana's Sex Advice to All Creation" by Olivia Judson, which provides a popular science perspective on diverse mating strategies in the animal kingdom.

Does anyone know of a website where I can read about male and female behaviour in different species? (This can include human beings). Specifically, I'm interested into learning how male approach to female for reproduction is done by different species.

The female praying mantis may bite eat the male's head.
This releases mating behavior that is sometimes inhibited by neural signals from the male's former head.

A book called Dr. Tatiana's Sex Advice to All Creation: The Definitive Guide to the Evolutionary Biology of Sex by Olivia Judson approaches this subject from a popular science perspective, giving various examples of all the weird (to humans at least) ways in which other species approach sex and mating.

I am reading Nicholas Wade's book A Troublesome Inheritance. Please let's not make this thread a critique about the merits or demerits of the book. This thread is my attempt to understanding the evidence that Natural Selection in the human genome was recent and regional. On Page 103 of A Troublesome Inheritance, Wade writes the following: "The regional nature of selection was first made evident in a genomewide scan undertaken by Jonathan Pritchard, a population geneticist at the...
