Which Groups Contain an Element, Compound, and Mixture?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around identifying two groups of substances that each contain one element, one compound, and one mixture. Initially, options B and D were suggested, but it was clarified that option B contains two elements and one mixture, making it incorrect. The correct groups identified are A (gold, sodium chloride, steel) and D (helium, carbon(IV) oxide, mixed dessert), as both meet the criteria. Participants debated the classification of steel, stainless steel, and bronze, concluding that these are alloys and thus mixtures. Ultimately, the consensus is that A and D are the correct answers for the groups containing one element, one compound, and one mixture.

Which 2 groups of substances below contain 1 element, 1 compound and 1 mixture? pick 2 groups.

A.) Gold, sodium chloride, steel
B.) oxygen, iodine, air
C.) methane, iron(III)chloride, sea-water
D.) Helium, carbon(IV) oxide, mixed dessert
E.) Bronze, stainless steel, nitrogen(IV)oxide

i pick B and D. can sombody correct me?
what is STEEL under? mixture?

thanks lotsa.

You may want to think again, B has two elements and one mixture. D is correct.

how about sodium chloride?

is sodium chloride a mixture?
bronze is also a compound right?

then my ans should be A and D. is that correct?

   Sodium chloride is an ionic...

sodium chloride is an ionic compound.
stainless steel is alloy so it's a compound?
how about Bronze? nitrogen oxide is a compound.

Yup.

Yup
how about Bronze?
Bronze is an alloy, and thus is a compound.
nitrogen oxide is a compound.
Yup

ok. thanks. but to pick out 2 groups which contain 1 element, 1 compound and 1 mixture. so i should pick D and which one?
A.) gold, sodium chloride, steel. ( there's only one element. no mixture.)
B.) oxygen,iodine , air ( 2 elements. 1 mixture.)
C.) methane, iron(III)chloride, sea-water. (there's 2 mixture. 1 compound.)
E.) bronze, stainless steel, nitrogen(IV)oxide (3 compounds.)

?

One of them is a compound.

methane and sodium chloride both are compound.

My apologies, after further research it appears that alloys are mixtures not compounds as they don't have a definite make up.

i see. okok. so steel, stainless steel and bronze are all mixtures?
so A and D is the answer.?

Yes, I would agree with you there, again apologies for the confusion, its a while since I have done anything like this :blushing:
