AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on a student contemplating a major in either Computer Science or Physics, particularly with an interest in Quantum Mechanics and its implications for Quantum Computing. The emerging field of Quantum Computing is highlighted as a potential area of opportunity that may require new programming paradigms. The student is considering focusing on one major but is also aware of the option to pursue a double major in Computer Science and Physics at universities in the Philippines. It is noted that a significant aspect of Physics involves using computers for data analysis and modeling, suggesting that a Physics major would still incorporate computer skills. The conversation emphasizes the importance of exploring personal interests and the potential career opportunities in both fields.

Hi guys!

Im quite confuse on what major i would like to proceed. I take BS - Computer Science @ 1st year - 1st semester. But I stop for awhile and now, I want to go back to school again. I love Science and I am starting to Love physics especially Quantum Mechanics. I love the Idea of it. But then I also love Computers. Can you help me which major is better to proceed with? in terms of opportunity.

Have you looked at Quantum Computers? Its an emerging field which may require a new kind of programming paradigm.

It would be worth investigating and using it to decide which major is best.

Uhm actually, i just heared bout it just now.
And actually it's quite interesting. But the problem is if that major is available here in our country.

To the OP:

I see from your profile that you are from the Philippines. Is there not an option to pursue a double major in Computer Science and Physics in universities in the Philippines?

Well Actually you have an option to pursue a double major in here. But I'm just thinking to focus on one major for this time.

A large part of physics is using computers for data analysis and modeling, so if you pursued the physics major it's not like you would not be using computers.

Hello, I graduated from undergrad a few years ago with a Major in Physics and minor in Electrical Engineering. I tried to get experience working on and testing circuits through my professor who studied Neutrinos, however covid caused the opportunity to go away and I graduated with no experience or internships. I have attempted to break into the engineering industry with no success. Right now I am considering going for a Masters in Electrical Engineering and I need advice on if this would be...
I don't know if anyone on here works for any of the well known defense companies of your country, whichever country you are from?? Also, if you choose to work in one, do you think the engineering education provide from your school would adequately prepare you for the job. What do I mean by that? Well if you work at say Lockheed Martin and you work in the latest iteration of a missile or if you work at Pratt & Whitney, they assign you to work in the team helping out with building the jet...
