AI Thread Summary
Frederick Douglass was a key figure in the abolitionist movement, advocating for political solutions rather than extreme measures, contrasting with contemporaries like William Lloyd Garrison. Clara Barton served as a nurse during the Civil War, though her specific allegiance to the Union or Confederate side was not clarified in the discussion. The U.S.S. Carondelet, mentioned as unfamiliar to some participants, is a naval vessel from the Civil War era. The conversation also included a suggestion to use dedicated history forums for more focused assistance on research topics.

Frederick Douglass was a prominent black abolitionist. In contrast to William Lloyd(?) Garrison, he was not an extremist. He wanted to use politics to gain an advantage, compared to the militaristic tactics of Garrison (that soon got him dragged down the street by the Broadcloth mob).

Clara Barton was a female medic (forgot whether she was on Union or Confederate).

I've never heard of the U.S.S. Carondelet. Sorry.

thanks

Humm... I think you got the wrong forum,

Try http://www.historychannel.com/discuss/discuss.html

I wouldn't go there and ask for homework help on a Physcis problem, but certianly would for a history question.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...

Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
