Why Am I Getting Multiple Identical Email Notifications for the Same Response?

AI Thread Summary
Users are experiencing multiple identical email notifications for the same response, with instances reported of receiving three notifications within a short time frame despite no new responses in the thread. This issue may arise when posts are deleted before users have a chance to read them, leading to notifications being sent that cannot be unsent. One user noted a similar occurrence with their own posts, where they created duplicates and deleted one, yet only one remained visible after refreshing. The discussion suggests that these email notifications could be linked to the timing of post deletions or edits. Overall, while the issue is noted as peculiar, it is not considered a significant problem.

For some reason, I got 3 identical notifications of a response. I got one at 11:41am, the next at 12:01pm and then another at 12:31pm. There were no responses in the thread as of the time of the most recent notification and the thread did not show that it has been edited.

This is not a big deal, but it's a bit weird so I though I should report it.

A possible explanation might be that some new posts were deleted before you had a chance to read them. When this happens, any emails that have already been sent cannot be unsent.

Makes sense. Thanks.

Odd coincidence, because one of the posts that I made around that time had shown that I made three exact copies of that post. I instantly deleted one, but when the page refreshed only one post was shown...

Perhaps a mod caught it at the same time.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
