AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around a user's confusion regarding the status of their paper submission to arXiv, which was accepted but did not appear as scheduled. The user received an initial notification about the paper's appearance but later found it missing, with no rejection email received. Concerns were raised about the impact of arXiv's holiday schedule on submission processing. Another participant suggested checking the submission status using the reference number provided at submission and inquired if this was the user's first submission, noting the requirement for an endorser. The user mentioned receiving an email with a verification link and paper ID but ultimately found that another paper with the same ID was published by a different author, adding to the confusion.

Hi,

I submitted a paper to archive recently (xxx.lanl.gov) which was accepted I received an email notifying me that it was due to appear yesterday at 20.00.

It did not appear and I did not receive an email saying that it had been rejected so I'm a little confused.

Any ideas?

Their holiday schedule has put many of the papers behind ...

so it was wrong to re-submit?

Something is wrong then. The holiday schedule doesn't affect them because it is done almost automatically.

You should have been given some sort of a reference number when you submitted. Use that to check the status of your submission. Also, is this your first paper submitted to Arxiv? If it is, you are usually required to get an endorser.

Well, I got this email after I submitted:
---------------------------------------
To verify abstract and postscript, use http://arxiv.org/abs/gr-qc/0512146
PaperId: gr-qc/0512146, PaperPassword: gzx5v (access still password restricted)
Abstract will appear in mailing scheduled to begin at 20:00 Monday
US Eastern time (i.e., Tue 27 Dec 05 01:00:00 GMT).
---------------------------------------

I received no further emails and the paper did not appear. Instead another paper now turns up with the same number from another author.

I’ve been looking through the curricula of several European theoretical/mathematical physics MSc programs (ETH, Oxford, Cambridge, LMU, ENS Paris, etc), and I’m struck by how little emphasis they place on advanced fundamental courses. Nearly everything seems to be research-adjacent: string theory, quantum field theory, quantum optics, cosmology, soft matter physics, black hole radiation, etc. What I don’t see are the kinds of “second-pass fundamentals” I was hoping for, things like...
TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
