AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the construction of the Burj Dubai, set to become the world's tallest building at 800 meters, surpassing the Petronas Towers by 350 meters. The motivations behind such ambitious projects are questioned, with some suggesting it stems from a desire for prestige rather than practical needs. Concerns about the practicality of high-rise living, including the duration of elevator travel, are raised. Speculation about the prince's motivations hints at a potential awareness of dwindling oil resources. The conversation also touches on broader themes of national identity and the implications of foreign influence in the region.

"The construction of what will be the world's tallest building is set to begin in Dubai, United Arab Emirates"

"The Burj Dubai tower will stand 800 metres tall - just 5 metres shy of half a mile - once completed in 2008. That will be a full 350 metres taller that the tallest floored in the world today, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur."

This fever for constructing high buildings have always struck me. I can't see any motivation for it, other than the childish "I have a building than is tallest than yours, :-p "
I'm also curious about how long can be the duration of the lift travel to go from the floor to the top

Just ONCE, I wanted to see a post titled Status Update that was not a blatant, annoying spam post by a new member. So here it is. Today was a good day here in Northern Wisconsin. Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
