AI Thread Summary
A modem sending significantly more data than it receives can indicate several issues. One potential cause is a poor phone line, which may lead to increased data transmission errors. Additionally, background processes, such as viruses or trojans, could be responsible for excessive outgoing data. It's recommended to regularly check systems for malware and consider using firewall software like Zonealarm to monitor and control internet access by various programs. This can help identify and restrict any unwanted data transmission, improving overall internet performance.

What would cause my modem to send a lot more info than it receives. I've been doing some random surfing, not uploading anything, not downloading very much, just cruising the web. My modem has received about 15 Meg, but it has sent an irritating 64M. Could a poor phone line account for something like this? The longer I surf the slower I go, and the Sent info grows faster and faster.

Have you checked your system for viruses/trojans lately?

If you're running Windows, install Zonealarm (free). It will tell you which program(s) is(are) accessing the internet, and you will be able to selectively deny them access to the network.

Thread 'Urgent: Physically repair - or bypass - power button on Asus laptop'
Asus Vivobook S14 flip. The power button is wrecked. Unable to turn it on AT ALL. We can get into how and why it got wrecked later, but suffice to say a kitchen knife was involved: These buttons do want to NOT come off, not like other lappies, where they can snap in and out. And they sure don't go back on. So, in the absence of a longer-term solution that might involve a replacement, is there any way I can activate the power button, like with a paperclip or wire or something? It looks...
