SUMMARY

The RC circuit in question was not functioning as expected due to an incorrect initial condition set for the capacitor. The user was measuring a constant voltage of 6V across the capacitor instead of observing the expected gradual increase during charging. The issue was resolved by ensuring the initial condition of the capacitor was set to 0V, allowing for proper transient analysis and voltage measurement.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of RC circuit theory
  • Familiarity with transient analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of voltage divider theory
  • Basic principles of capacitor behavior in DC circuits
NEXT STEPS
  • Review RC circuit design and analysis techniques
  • Learn about setting initial conditions in circuit simulations
  • Explore transient response in capacitive circuits
  • Study voltage divider principles in more depth
USEFUL FOR

Electronics students, circuit designers, and engineers working with RC circuits and transient analysis.

Hello all!

I am really stuck up here. I have made this circuit and want to measure the voltage across the capacitor. The voltage should gradually increase as the capacitor charges, and then become constant. But, I only get a constant voltage of 6V across the capacitor.

Infact, I have to measure the time constant. I am doing a transient analysis, and when I plot the voltage, it just shows a straight line, and no rising trend.

Please help!

Have you done voltage divider theory, and do you know how a capacitor 'see's' a DC supply?

Thanks for the reply.

I have solved the problem. I was not setting the initial condition of the capacitor to 0V.
