Will a router motor have permanent magnets?

AI Thread Summary
A typical 2HP router is unlikely to contain permanent magnets, as it likely operates using an induction motor or an AC/DC motor with field windings. Induction motors do not utilize permanent magnets, which supports the assertion. The discussion centers on the mechanics of router motors, emphasizing the use of electromagnets instead. The consensus leans towards the absence of permanent magnets in such routers. Understanding the motor type is crucial for accurate assessments of router design.

Settle a bet:

A reasonable sized (believe it is 2HP) router will not have any permanent magnets inside it upon tear-down. Instead, it uses an electromagnet.

Correct?

It's likely to be an induction motor (obvs no magnets) or an AC/DC motor with a field winding. (IMO)

Thread 'Motional EMF in Faraday disc, co-rotating magnet axial mean flux'
So here is the motional EMF formula. Now I understand the standard Faraday paradox that an axis symmetric field source (like a speaker motor ring magnet) has a magnetic field that is frame invariant under rotation around axis of symmetry. The field is static whether you rotate the magnet or not. So far so good. What puzzles me is this , there is a term average magnetic flux or "azimuthal mean" , this term describes the average magnetic field through the area swept by the rotating Faraday...
