AI Thread Summary
A senior Electrical Engineering student from Wright State University is seeking advice on pursuing a master's degree in power systems and power generation, as this specialization is not offered at their current institution. The student has a cumulative GPA of 3.01 overall, with a 3.43 at Wright State and a 3.57 in Electrical Engineering. They are considering the University of Kentucky for its strong power program, believing they have a better chance of acceptance there compared to Ohio State. The student plans to take the GRE soon, aiming to exceed the required score of 1100 to improve their application prospects. They are looking for feedback on whether their academic performance is sufficient for admission to UK.

Hello all,

I'm a senior Electrical Engineering student at Wright State University in OH and I'll be graduating in March 2011 with my BSEE degree.

I've come to the conclusion that my main area of passion and interest is in power systems and power generation so I'd like to do a masters degree focusing on that, which they don't really have at Wright State - so I'll need to go elsewhere.

My stats:

3.01 for all undergrad (I had some poor study habits at a prior Univ.)
3.43 Wright State
3.57 Electrical Engineering

I've been doing some research on grad schools an the school I think might be my best fit is the University of Kentucky. They have a wonderful power program and I think I might have a more realistic shot of getting into UK than Ohio State, which I was originally thinking of pursuing.

My main question is: Are my stats good enough to get into a school like UK? I plan to take the GRE soon and I'm hoping that doing well on that will boost my chances as well. UK only requires an 1100 GRE so I'm hoping to surpass that by quite a bit. Not a guarantee of course, but I certainly hope I can.

Do I have a chance?

Thanks in advance!

Bit Britain-specific but I was wondering, what's the best path to take for A-Levels out of the following (I know Y10 seems a bit early to be thinking about A-levels, but my choice will impact what I do this year/ in y11) I (almost) definitely want to do physics at University - so keep that in mind... The subjects that I'm almost definitely going to take are Maths, Further Maths and Physics, and I'm taking a fast track programme which means that I'll be taking AS computer science at the end...
After a year of thought, I decided to adjust my ratio for applying the US/EU(+UK) schools. I mostly focused on the US schools before, but things are getting complex and I found out that Europe is also a good place to study. I found some institutes that have professors with similar interests. But gaining the information is much harder than US schools (like you have to contact professors in advance etc). For your information, I have B.S. in engineering (low GPA: 3.2/4.0) in Asia - one SCI...
I'm going to make this one quick since I have little time. Background: Throughout my life I have always done good in Math. I almost always received 90%+, and received easily upwards of 95% when I took normal-level HS Math courses. When I took Grade 9 "De-Streamed" Math (All students must take "De-Streamed" in Canada), I initially had 98% until I got very sick and my mark had dropped to 95%. The Physics teachers and Math teachers talked about me as if I were some sort of genius. Then, an...
