Wire strippers for duplex thermocouple wire?

AI Thread Summary
A suitable wire stripper for type K duplex thermocouple wire is the Stripmaster series by Ideal Industries, which can offer custom blades for production environments. For one-time projects, a workflow that involves pulling all wires, stripping jackets with a razor knife, and then stripping conductors can be efficient. Implementing a template for jacket length and using strippers with a wire stop can save significant labor time. For production settings, powered wire strippers may be beneficial, especially for individual conductors. Contacting manufacturers for tailored solutions is recommended for optimal results.

Does anyone here know of a good wire stripper for type K duplex thermocouple wire?

Not specifically but, if you are in a production environment for this, the Stripmaster series by Ideal Industries (https://www.idealind.com) is a place to start (they can make custom blades if the volume justifies it).

If it is a one-time situation like instrumenting a room or a one-of-a-kind-machine, perhaps you can set up the work flow to:

Pull/route all wires
Strip all jackets (razor knife to split, dikes to snip it off)
Strip all conductors

It doesn't take much volume to justify:
1) Making a template for jacket length (even a piece of cardboard cut to length), and
2) Strippers that have a wire stop so you can insert wire to the stop and strip instead of having to make a judgement call on length every time.

Those two tips can easily save 20% to 30% of labor time.

Thanks Tom, yes these would be for a production environment. We are an OEM supplier of molten aluminum casting equipment, and require the use of T/C placement at various locations of our equipment in the melt stream itself. So looking to supply these tools to assist with our customers needing to make and remake these T/C wire junctions in as easy as possibly fashion, instead of just using dikes!

OK, since it really is a production environment you might investigate powered wire strippers; their are some that operate the same as an electric pencil sharpener.

They may not work well for the jacket of duplex wire, but could be quite useful for the individual conductors.

You best bet is to contact some manufacturers of wire strippers and ask what ideas (products) they have.

Cheers,
Tom

Yes, I have contacted Ideal Industries, and will be sending them samples of the exact wire we use and supply to our customers. Thanks again for your advice!

Hi all I have some confusion about piezoelectrical sensors combination. If i have three acoustic piezoelectrical sensors (with same receive sensitivity in dB ref V/1uPa) placed at specific distance, these sensors receive acoustic signal from a sound source placed at far field distance (Plane Wave) and from broadside. I receive output of these sensors through individual preamplifiers, add them through hardware like summer circuit adder or in software after digitization and in this way got an...
I have recently moved into a new (rather ancient) house and had a few trips of my Residual Current breaker. I dug out my old Socket tester which tell me the three pins are correct. But then the Red warning light tells me my socket(s) fail the loop test. I never had this before but my last house had an overhead supply with no Earth from the company. The tester said "get this checked" and the man said the (high but not ridiculous) earth resistance was acceptable. I stuck a new copper earth...
Thread 'Beauty of old electrical and measuring things, etc.'
Even as a kid, I saw beauty in old devices. That made me want to understand how they worked. I had lots of old things that I keep and now reviving. Old things need to work to see the beauty. Here's what I've done so far. Two views of the gadgets shelves and my small work space: Here's a close up look at the meters, gauges and other measuring things: This is what I think of as surface-mount electrical components and wiring. The components are very old and shows how...
