In summary, the conversation discusses the characteristics of a good mechanical engineer, including a liking for hands-on work, a decent understanding of physics, problem-solving skills, and an interest in building and modifying things. The conversation also touches on the daily tasks of a mechanical engineer, which can vary greatly depending on the specific branch of engineering. The BLS OOH site provides more information on the types of engineering and the tasks typically performed by mechanical engineers.

I've been told I would be a good Mechanical Engineer because I like hands on work and am good at it. And I have a decent understanding of physics and they somewhat interest me. I like to build and modify things. I like to solve problems and I'm pretty good at it. (At least I think so)
I'm 17 yrs old and I'm just curious if you guys think those are some good mechanical engineer characteristics?
And what does an average mechanical engineer do on a daily basis?

They work, mostly.

1. What is the role of an ME in daily work?

An ME, or mechanical engineer, is responsible for designing, testing, and manufacturing mechanical systems such as machines, tools, and engines. They use their knowledge of physics, materials science, and mathematics to solve problems and develop solutions for various industries.

2. What tasks does an ME typically perform on a daily basis?

An ME's daily tasks may include creating designs using computer-aided design software, conducting tests and experiments on prototypes, analyzing data and results, writing reports and technical documentation, and collaborating with other team members or clients.

3. How does an ME use technology in their daily work?

An ME utilizes various technologies in their daily work, such as CAD software, simulation and analysis tools, and 3D printing. They also use specialized equipment and instruments for testing and measuring mechanical systems.

4. What skills are necessary for an ME to be successful in their daily work?

An ME must have a strong foundation in mathematics, physics, and engineering principles. They should also possess critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Good communication and teamwork abilities are also important for collaborating with engineers and non-technical professionals.

5. How does an ME's daily work contribute to society?

The work of an ME has a significant impact on society as they design and develop various products and systems that improve our daily lives. From transportation and energy systems to medical devices and consumer products, MEs play a crucial role in advancing technology and enhancing our quality of life.
