Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. (commonly known as Columbia Pictures) is an American film studio and production company that is a member of the Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, a division of Sony Entertainment's Sony Pictures Entertainment, itself a subsidiary of the Japanese multinational conglomerate Sony. What would eventually become Columbia Pictures was founded as the Cohn-Brandt-Cohn (CBC) Film Sales Corporation on June 19, 1918 by brothers Jack and Harry Cohn and their business partner, Joe Brandt. It adopted the Columbia Pictures name in 1924 (operating as Columbia Pictures Corporation until 1968), went public two years later, and eventually began to use the image of Columbia, the female personification of the United States, as its logo.
In its early years, Columbia was a minor player in Hollywood, but began to grow in the late 1920s, spurred by a successful association with director Frank Capra. With Capra and others, Columbia became one of the primary homes of the screwball comedy. In the 1930s, Columbia's major contract stars were Jean Arthur and Cary Grant. In the 1940s, Rita Hayworth became the studio's premier star and propelled their fortunes into the late 1950s. Rosalind Russell, Glenn Ford, and William Holden also became major stars at the studio.
It is one of the leading film studios in the world and is a member of the "Big Five" major American film studios. Columbia was one of the so-called "Little Three" among the eight major film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. Today, it has become the world's third largest major film studio.
The company was also primarily responsible for distributing Disney's Silly Symphony film series as well as the Mickey Mouse cartoon series from 1929 to 1932. The studio is headquartered at the Irving Thalberg Building on the former Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (currently known as the Sony Pictures Studios) lot in Culver City, California since 1990.

Hello!
I'm applying to different universities in the US. Can you please give your opinion about the University of Missouri - Columbia? (http://www.math.missouri.edu)
They have several professors with PhDs from prestigious universities so I think it's a good option, isn't it? what do you think?
This is my question. I am going for a major in Physics. I am still in High school. Can someone tell me what were you grades when you got into either of those Universities? I mean your overall grades. List them out for me.
Also, Is it more difficult to transfer from an university to another...

Anybody know much about admission statistics for graduate studies at the Institute for Strings, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics at Columbia University?
Curious to know what admission rate is and what are the stats of students typically admitted.
Thanks.
Hi everyone,
For the past year, I spent my freshman year in college at UC Berkeley studying math and physics. Since tuition was expensive for out-of-state and because I wanted to go to the East, I applied for transfer. I'm now debating whether to stay at Berkeley or whether to go to Columbia...
How's physics at Columbia? It seems that Cornell has a more well known physics program, and there's not much said about Columbia. And what about physics at Brandeis and at Brown?
Also, what are my chances for an awesome grad school going to a school like Brandeis that isn't ivy? I'm not sure...
I went to an education fair recently, trying to find a good university to go to, and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver seemed very appealing to me. They seem to have a nice-looking campus, as well as a mountain lodge, and Vancouver seems like a really pleasant place. I'm in the...

I saw a video of Columbia’s re-entry I think on FOX news. It showed the shuttle going from the right side of the image to the left, the camera’s POV was looking at the rear engines. It seemed as if the shuttle was turned 90 degrees clock-wise from what a normal entry is suppose to be (nose...
