I need a controller for this 25kW DC Brushless Motor

In summary, the speaker is looking for a controller to use with a 3-cable, sensorless motor that they purchased online. They are unsure which controller to choose and are seeking recommendations. The motor is not specifically for a drone, but will be used for testing purposes. The speaker has seen videos discussing controllers for DIY drones and suggests looking into variable frequency drives (VFDs) as a possible option.

The motor is for a drone? How many motors will you be using on it?

The motor has 3 cables and is sensorless.
Are you going to use feedback from something else to control the motor? Or do you have some other application where you can run it open-loop?

These are typically 3 phase synchronous AC motors. The controller supplies the three phase at variable frequency from DC power source. The motors are impressive.

The motor isn't for a drone. We just want to be able to run some tests with it. Any form of control would be good.

I recall seeing some Youtube videos on DIY drones. They discussed which controllers they chose. For use on drones, the controllers need to be small, light, and inexpensive.

1. What is a controller for a 25kW DC Brushless Motor?

A controller for a 25kW DC Brushless Motor is an electronic device that regulates the speed and direction of the motor by controlling the amount of power supplied to it. It is responsible for converting the direct current (DC) input into a variable frequency and voltage output to control the motor's speed and torque.

2. Why do I need a controller for a 25kW DC Brushless Motor?

A controller is necessary for a 25kW DC Brushless Motor because it allows for precise control over the motor's speed and direction. Without a controller, the motor would run at a constant speed and direction, limiting its functionality and efficiency.

3. How does a controller for a 25kW DC Brushless Motor work?

A controller for a 25kW DC Brushless Motor works by receiving input from sensors that measure the motor's speed and position. It then uses this information to adjust the frequency and voltage of the motor's power supply, allowing for precise control over its speed and direction.

4. What are the benefits of using a controller for a 25kW DC Brushless Motor?

Using a controller for a 25kW DC Brushless Motor offers several benefits, including improved efficiency, precise control over speed and direction, and the ability to easily integrate with other electronic systems. It also helps to extend the lifespan of the motor by preventing it from overheating or running at excessive speeds.

5. Are there different types of controllers for a 25kW DC Brushless Motor?

Yes, there are several types of controllers for a 25kW DC Brushless Motor, including open-loop, closed-loop, and sensorless controllers. Open-loop controllers use a predetermined speed profile to control the motor, while closed-loop controllers use feedback from sensors to adjust the motor's speed and direction. Sensorless controllers use advanced algorithms to determine the motor's position and adjust the power supply accordingly.
