Fortran Fortran Forum for Programming Help: Resources, Tips, and Support
Anybody has an idea why Fortran is performing so poorly in the Computer language Benchmarks Game ? I just started to learn Fortran, mainly because I prefer it to C/C++ and needed speed. I've always heard Fortran was faster than C/C++, and C++ could only get close to Fortan using template...- PhDP

Graduate Real and Complex Analysis Textbook
...I'm looking for an introduction to real analysis, is Rudin's book appropriate (I've many bad things about it, especially from physicists) ? I'm a scientist with 7 courses in maths (Calculus I/II, Multivariate Calculus, Ordinary Differential Equations, Linear Algebra I/II, Statistics). -

Undergrad projects in maths and biology
J77, About dynamical systems... if you look at mathematical analysis of the Rosenzweig–MacArthur model, or more recently, of many ratio-dependent models, you'll find them. But some other system of differential equations have not been analysed at all. In fact, when I thought about trying to...- PhDP

Undergrad projects in maths and biology
Hello I'm thinking about creating an online group of undergrad biology/mathematics students to create projects in theoretical/mathematical biology (I'm not talking about statistics; stats are well established in biology). The fact is, there are so many opportunities to use mathematics in...- PhDP

Why are people interested in being tall?
When I was young, I was the tallest in my class. For some reason, in high school, I was slightly below average. And now I'm about ~190cm, which is fairly tall. I can assure you, it's unfair, but people will have a better opinion of you if you're tall. It's not just my personal...- PhDP

Graduate System of Differential Equations
Hello, I'll take a research course very soon, and I would like to analyse the behavior of some system of differential equations (with sometime up to 6 differential equations). To do so, I would need a good book. I'm not interested in long mathematical proofs, I just want to have a good...- PhDP
