High School Question about the s-process and r-process in stellar evolution
But why is an odd number of protons with an odd number of neutrons less stable than an even number of protons with an even number of neutrons they would both be neutral atoms yet the even version is more prevalent? I'm not sure i totally understand why that would make any difference if they...- TheCelt

High School Question about the s-process and r-process in stellar evolution
Hello I have been reading about the s-process and r-process in star evolution. And one thing i briefly saw mentioned was that both processes generally create higher abundances of elements with even number of protons than odd. It however did not explain why there is a slight bias towards even...- TheCelt

Undergrad Quantum numbers for energy levels
Well i presmued for an energy level $$E_n$$ there must be one quantum number that must be n the others are 1 ? Otherwise I am confused on how the quantum numbers increase for each energy level ?- TheCelt

Undergrad Quantum numbers for energy levels
I'm not given that info, I'm trying to find the difference in energy to the ground state. Why would it not be E4?- TheCelt

Undergrad Quantum numbers for energy levels
Hello Can some one explain how you work out the combinations of quantum numbers for infinite wells in higher dimensions? For example if i have an energy level $$E_4$$ In a 2D well, then for quantum numbers does this mean the combinations allowed must be: $$4^2 + 1^2$$ $$1^2 + 4^2$$ So then...- TheCelt

High School Reduced mass to atomic mass units conversion help please
@BvU it was representing a $$_2^4 He$$ Don't know how to write it inline with my sentence, anyway it does seem I forgot that it would be 4u.- TheCelt

High School Reduced mass to atomic mass units conversion help please
Hello I am trying to understand how to write the reduced mass into atomic mass units but i am confused how it was done. The equation is $$m_1m_2/(m_1+m_2)$$ For two similar masses in my particular case i have: $$m^2 / 2m = 1/2 * m$$ Then to convert to atomic mass units, the book says it...- TheCelt

High School How does the Gamow window change for different reactions?
I don't know how its measured I just saw the graph looking like a bell curve around the peak. Nothing else was really said about what happens to the width at different peak levels. So i don't have much insight to give with regards to what width is measured with here, i was curious to know the...- TheCelt

High School How does the Gamow window change for different reactions?
I am learning about the gamow energy and saw a graph explaining the gamow peak - but i am not quite sure i understand the relationship about the overwall gamow window. From what i think i understand so far for fusion if the gamow energy peak is greater the gamow window becomes smaller is this...- TheCelt

Understanding the Relationship Between Momentum and Energy: A Classical Approach
I am trying to relate these equations to get the energy with respect to momentum based on particle wavelengths. I did the following: $$\lambda = h/p$$ so $$p= h/ \lambda $$ Then $$p=mv$$ and $$E=1/2mv^2$$ So $$E = pv/2 $$ But the answer was: $$E = p^2/2m $$ I don't understand how they...- TheCelt

High School Measuring distance between two stars in a binary system
Well I couldn't visually work out how to draw it properly as I have said, i was not sure where the right angle would be, and its not clear to my why there would be one (see picture 2). I don't see why we draw them at right angle to the COM relative to the vector from Earth. Because after some...- TheCelt

High School Measuring distance between two stars in a binary system
Well the book simplifies things since its only introducing the subject and hasn't added the complexity of things moving. I think i understand how to visualise it now but i think my trig is wrong because i seem to find using the sin function is required not the tan function, so i don't quite see...- TheCelt
