Google vs IBM Watson: The Power of Search in Jeopardy!

Watson doesn't even have the ability to answer to his name or is able to convert voice into text! Something that most PCs and Smart phones can do, also the Kinect can do such tasks as well. http://ibmresearchnews.blogspot.com/2010/12/how-watson-sees-hears-and-speaks-to.html I mean if one were...

Can Radar Be Used to Map Distant Planets?

I understand that it would take years to get the echo back, but I was thinking about how much power it would take to make possible? Also would a MASER be more efficient approach? I mean if one could generate the power?

Google vs IBM Watson: The Power of Search in Jeopardy!

Also note that the answer to "What is Pinky and the Brain" get's a hit on Google on the first line! Since Watson didn't respond to that answer it would appear that IBM's search engine isn't as good as Google's.

Can Radar Be Used to Map Distant Planets?

Would it be possible to use a very powerful k band radar signal to bounce off one of the rocky planets discovered orbiting other stars? If that is possible could we use it to build a radar map of the planet?

Google vs IBM Watson: The Power of Search in Jeopardy!

IBM's Watson looks very impressive...But try using Google for the Answers or hints on Jeopardy. Guess what, if you had access to Google you'd score on Jeopardy! So what Watson appears to be doing is performing a search with something similar to Google and then parsing out the search hit results...

Finding the Minor and major axis lenths of an ellipse from conjugate diameters

Found the problem the sin function has exceptions at 0, 3.14, and 6.28 radians. While the cos function has exceptions at 1.57 and 4.71 radians. When the ellipse is oriented at those angles then the a and b axis are the conjugate semi-diameters. Also the computation for alpha shouldn't have a...

Finding the Minor and major axis lenths of an ellipse from conjugate diameters

The image below is the supposed solution for solving the minor and major axis of an ellipse from two conjugate diameter end points. Note that λ is not defined, which makes the solution for b impossible. I used the sum of the squares of conjugate semi-diameters rule where it is constant and...

Finding the Minor and major axis lenths of an ellipse from conjugate diameters

Hello, I'm having a problem finding the minor and major axsis lengths of an ellipse from three points, the ellipse's center, and two conjugate end point diameters. I have no problem solving the problem when the conjugate diameters align with the minor and major axsis, but when they don't the...

Venus: Looking for Life Beyond Earth

On the other hand this could be a means to sell subscriptions or articles! The photos could be debris that have fallen off the space probe and their motion is caused by wind gusts. Each article in Solar System Research will set you back $35.00. 35*...Oh let's say 50,000 curious science...

Venus: Looking for Life Beyond Earth

I choose this site because it displays the pictures, but the article is hitting all the news sites: http://yourtubenews.ning.com/forum/topics/life-spotted-on-venus-russian-scientist Considering extreme life does exist on Earth is it possible that it does exist on Venus. After all the thick...

Exploring the Concept of Bulk and Parallel Universes Across Multiple Dimensions

Is the bulk the manifold container with 12 dimensions? Also are parallel universes those that operate across different dimensions? For instance our universe operates in dimensions 1, 2, 3, but a parallel universe could operate in dimensions 4,5,6?

Can dogs or cats survive in zero gravity without human assitance?

The kinds of experiments involving animals in space have only answered simple questions of survivability in captivity where human assistance is at hand. The big problems of space colonization have yet to be answered. I thought up this question when someone on this forum posted a response to my...

What are NASA's plans for utilizing resources on the moon?

The question was wether a robot could carry its own battery pack, so I'm not moving the goal posts. That robonaut 2 not have at least what MIT's COG has in autonomous capabilites is prolematic. Especially when that technology from MIT is available to NASA. The point has always been are "we...
