This is a "today I learned" moment, which inspired me to get this AI cartoon made. The thing I learned today is that there is a reported case of otoacoustic emissions from a poodle that the vet staff could hear directly and unaided.

This is a "I learned another new word moment". I searched for "cartoons" for totally unrelated reasons and this thread came up. I was attracted like a magnet to the word "otoacoustic" (I'm kind of an amateur etymology fan), so I learned a new word there (along with, recently, "ectoparasiticide").

1/12 scale is the standard and most common scale for models and traditional dolls houses.

In the "one-inch scale", 1 inch in the miniature world equals 1 foot in real life. Which explains why the inches on a modeller's rule, are subdivided into 1/12 of an inch, not 1/16 (binary), nor 1/10 (metric).
I'm not joking.

The original designer got it right, only the Chinese knock-off replaces the "⋅" with a "/". I thought the Chinese were simply avoiding a breach of copyright, by randomly changing 5% of the text.

No certainty in this exact case, but most advertisements and original products do seem to use a "-" for multiply, which is probably OK in the English language, but not in maths.

In all of the years I've written ft-lb, kw-hr,... I never once saw - as a minus sign. Now I can't un-see it, lol.

It's not really for multiply, of course; it's not a minus but rather a hyphen, used to replace a space, binding space-separated words such as "ft lb" or similar together as a single hyphenated term within text.
