Hey, is an EE graduate degree worthwhile?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around the value of pursuing a graduate degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) given a cumulative GPA of 3.2. The original poster questions the necessity of achieving high undergraduate grades solely for graduate school admission, particularly in the context of a career in video game console design. It is noted that top-tier schools and companies may have stringent GPA requirements, influencing the decision to focus on academic performance. Concerns are raised about the potential limitations of a bachelor's degree in the field, suggesting that advanced education may open more opportunities. Ultimately, the conversation highlights the importance of academic credentials in the competitive landscape of EE and related industries.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth my time to make my undergraduate GPA super high

My cumulative won't get much higher than 3.2 even if I get 4.0 for the next two years, so I won't be able to get into any honors societies, and the only reason I can see to bother temporarily memorizing every stupid detail to ace my finals and get super-high grades is so that I could get into graduate school

But is that necessary in EE? What kind of work can you do with a master's or doctorate that you can't do with a bachelor's degree?

I'm thinking I'd like to go into the design of video game consoles, but I'm concerned that a Bachelor's will just leave me qualified to be some phd's <strike>*****</strike> technician

Depends on where you want to get your advanced education and what companies are looking at your educational background. Ivy league schools will want only the best candidates, compared to an average state school. Same for companies, if you want to produce games for SquareSoft,Lucas Arts, etc. start kicking ass in school! ~Later Dave

can i get a ms degree with 2.5 gpa? EE is hard.

Thread 'I need a concave mirror with a focal length length of 150 feet'
I need to cut down a 3 year old dead tree from top down so tree causes no damage with small pieces falling. I need a mirror with a focal length of 150 ft. 12" diameter to 36" diameter will work good but I can't think of any easy way to build it. Nothing like this for sale on Ebay. I have a 30" Fresnel lens that I use to burn stumps it works great. Tree service wants $2000.
Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
