AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the concept of "speed of thought," exploring whether it exists and how it can be explained. Participants suggest that the brain processes thoughts based on chemical interactions, indicating that sensory perceptions take at least a few hundredths of a second to register. The conversation touches on the distinction between cognitive processing and physics, with references to science fiction, particularly the works of EE Doc Smith, which also lack a scientific basis. The idea of timing thought processes is introduced, inviting further exploration of the topic.

is there such thing as speed of thought? if so how can it be explained?

I guess - your brain processes thoughts at a rate determined by the chemical interactions in it. Ie, it takes at least a few hundredths of a second to register a new sensory perception.

But that doesn't have much to do with physics...

The particular usage reminds me of some old science fiction by EE Doc Smith. Which didn't have much if anything to do with physics, either.

I'll think about it. Anyone want to time me?
