AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the legitimacy of a permanent magnetic motor showcased in a YouTube video, which has been granted a US patent. Despite the patent, the consensus is that the concept of a perpetual motion machine is widely regarded as impossible within the scientific community. The forum emphasizes that patents do not validate scientific claims and that discussions on perpetual motion or free energy are not permitted. The general sentiment is that if such a motor were truly viable, it would garner significant media attention and recognition.

PF noob here so hopefully this is the right place for this post.

I recently saw this youtube of a working permanent magnetic motor

normally i'd dismiss this tinkerer science as "overt crackpottery" but the original work was granted a US patent http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?patentnumber=4151431" so maybe there's something to it.

my question is, is this motor legitimate and if it is, is it remarkable in any way?

You will see that we don't allow discussion of perpetual motion or free energy, nor is a patent listed as a valid scientific reference. If there was anything to the claim, it would be the lead story on the evening news.

Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
