Medical Human Perception of Matter and Energy via Five Senses

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the accuracy of defining human senses and their mechanisms. The sense of sight is described as the perception of light waves reflecting off matter, specifically involving the detection of photons. Sound is characterized as the perception of acoustic waves traveling through various states of matter. Taste is identified as the perception of solid and liquid matter, primarily for detecting chemicals related to food. Smell is noted for its role in perceiving gaseous matter, also related to food detection. Touch encompasses the perception of matter and thermal energy, distinguishing between mechanical pressure and heat detection, which are considered separate senses. The conversation also suggests that humans possess more than the traditional five senses, hinting at a broader understanding of sensory perception.

Does this look accurate at all?

Sense of Sight - The perception of energy (light waves) bouncing off of matter (solid/liquid/gas)
Sense of Sound - The perception of energy (sound waves) traveling through matter (solid/liquid/gas)
Sense of Taste - The perception of matter (solid/liquid)
Sense of Smell - The perception of matter (gas)
Sense of Touch - The perception of both matter (solid/liquid/gas) and energy (thermal)

Human's have more than just five senses; take a look at this list. Also;

Sight is simply the detection of photons.

Sound is detection of acoustic waves.

Detection of various chemicals (specifically evolved to deal with food)

Touch is the sense of mechanical pressure. Thermoception is the detection of heat, they are different senses.
