Open source math software for Mac OS X

AI Thread Summary
Open source math software options for Mac OS X that can serve as alternatives to Mathematica include Maxima and Sage. Maxima offers some capabilities similar to Mathematica but lacks its advanced features and user-friendly interface. Sage, being Unix-based, provides a broader range of functions akin to Mathematica and is compatible with Mac systems. Both options can be utilized for vector geometry problems, such as drawing planes and lines in 3-D space, though they may not fully replicate Mathematica's capabilities.

Is there an open source math software for Mac OS X which is equivalent to Mathematica?
I intend to use it for vector geometry problems (drawing planes, lines in 3-D space).

There's Maxima, which is close in some respects. It doesn't quite have the power of Mathematica, and the user interface isn't anything close to that of Mathematica's.

There's a Unix-based open source program called Sage which has a lot of Mathematica's functions. Since it's Unix-based, it should run on the Mac.
