A standard fluxgate magnetometer for measuring dc magnetic fields uses a dc winding (biasing current) on an ac transformer to cancel the imposed dc magnetic field and null the output signal. Sometimes the dc bias current is imposed directly on the ac secondary output coil, as shown in the thumbnail.
