Any way to simplify this fraction without a calculator?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around simplifying the fraction -[(0.02)^4]/[4(0.98)^4] without a calculator. The key simplification involves recognizing that 0.02/0.98 simplifies to 1/49. Participants note that while the fraction can be simplified to 1/(4*49^4), the original negative sign is lost in the process. This raises a question about whether the negative was mistakenly omitted in the final result. The conversation emphasizes the importance of maintaining the correct sign throughout the simplification process.

However the original form is negative and the final result is positive. Did you accidently drop the "-"?

I picked up this problem from the Schaum's series book titled "College Mathematics" by Ayres/Schmidt. It is a solved problem in the book. But what surprised me was that the solution to this problem was given in one line without any explanation. I could, therefore, not understand how the given one-line solution was reached. The one-line solution in the book says: The equation is ##x \cos{\omega} +y \sin{\omega} - 5 = 0##, ##\omega## being the parameter. From my side, the only thing I could...
