AI Thread Summary
Galaxies primarily orbit around each other, but their movements also suggest they are influenced by unseen forces, particularly dark matter. Observations indicate that galaxies are moving at speeds that cannot be accounted for by the visible matter alone, reinforcing the dark matter hypothesis. Additionally, hydrogen and helium gas has been detected in the centers of these orbits, with its properties explained by gravitational effects attributed to dark matter. This discussion highlights the complexities of galaxy interactions and the role of dark matter in the universe. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for comprehending cosmic structures and their evolution.

I know some galaxy orbite around other galaxy but are they orbiting only around each other?

Yes, what else would they orbit?

Galaxies can be seen orbiting each other 'too quickly' to be explained by the matter the systems contain, another strong statement for the existence of dark matter. Hydrogen and helium gas has been detected/imaged with radio (X-ray?) telescopes in the center of the orbits at density and temperature being explained by the gravitation of the dark matter.

TL;DR Summary: In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. In case of failure to detect alien signals, it will further expand the radius of the so-called silence (or rather, radio silence) of the Universe. Is there any sense in this or is blissful ignorance better? In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. This thread is dedicated to the beauty and awesomeness of our Universe. If you feel like it, please share video clips and photos (or nice animations) of space and objects in space in this thread. Your posts, clips and photos may by all means include scientific information; that does not make it less beautiful to me (n.b. the posts must of course comply with the PF guidelines, i.e. regarding science, only mainstream science is allowed, fringe/pseudoscience is not allowed). n.b.
