Base Isolation Systems in Skyscrapers?

AI Thread Summary
Base isolation systems are increasingly utilized in the design and construction of skyscrapers to enhance earthquake resistance. These systems allow buildings to move independently from ground motion, reducing structural damage during seismic events. Notable examples of skyscrapers employing base isolation include structures in Asia, which often showcase advanced engineering techniques for earthquake-proofing. The Discovery Channel frequently features these innovative construction methods, highlighting their effectiveness in high-rise buildings. Overall, base isolation is a critical component in modern skyscraper design, especially in earthquake-prone regions.

I was wondering if base isolation systems are used in the design and construction of skyscrapers. I was reading up on base isolation systems and they seem to be used in normal sized buildings frequently. Anyways, if anyone could give me some examples of base isolation systems being used in skyscrapers it would be much appreciated.

Do some searches for the big sky scrapers in Asia. I am always seeing shows on Discovery Channel on how they are built and the very cool methods they use for earthquake proofing.

Hi all, I have a question. So from the derivation of the Isentropic process relationship PV^gamma = constant, there is a step dW = PdV, which can only be said for quasi-equilibrium (or reversible) processes. As such I believe PV^gamma = constant (and the family of equations) should not be applicable to just adiabatic processes? Ie, it should be applicable only for adiabatic + reversible = isentropic processes? However, I've seen couple of online notes/books, and...
I have an engine that uses a dry sump oiling system. The oil collection pan has three AN fittings to use for scavenging. Two of the fittings are approximately on the same level, the third is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch higher than the other two. The system ran for years with no problem using a three stage pump (one pressure and two scavenge stages). The two scavenge stages were connected at times to any two of the three AN fittings on the tank. Recently I tried an upgrade to a four stage pump...
