Best Stability of Structures Textbooks/Resources?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the search for affordable and reputable textbooks for Stability of Structures and Creep courses in Aerospace Engineering. The required textbook for Stability, "Guide to Stability Design Criteria for Metal Structures," is deemed too expensive, while the recommended "Stability Analysis and Design of Structures" has quality issues. The student seeks alternative resources that are budget-friendly and effective for understanding the material. Additionally, they express concern over the high cost of the required text for the Creep course, "Fundamentals of Creep in Metals and Alloys." Recommendations for accessible reference books or resources are requested to supplement course content without incurring high costs.

Hi, I am a student pursuing an MS in Aerospace Engineering with a concentration in Aerospace Structures. I am currently taking a course in Stability of Structures. The "required" textbook is Guide to Stability Design Criteria for Metal Structures (ISBN 0471127426), and the other recommended text is Stability Analysis and Design of Structures (ISBN 3540207848). Unfortunately, the first textbook is rather expensive, and the second seemed to have numerous grammatical and syntax errors in the first chapter, so I returned it (from the library). My question is, are there other reputable books out there that cover this material and that wouldn't break the bank?

Also, I am taking another course in Creep, and the "required" text is $230 (Fundamentals of Creep in Metals and Alloys by Kassner). Are there other cheaper books on Creep out there?

The thing is, both of these courses don't actually require the textbooks. I can't justify spending so much money on these books, yet I want to have a reference book or some resources to add to the course material. If you can recommend any for either of these courses, I would be grateful. Thanks!

Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
