Quantum Books on Practical Laser Applications for Spectroscopy Enthusiasts

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the search for practical and experimental resources about lasers, particularly in the context of atomic and molecular spectroscopy. The user seeks recommendations for books or review papers that focus on the application of different types of lasers, such as pulsed versus continuous wave (CW) lasers, and their specific uses in experimental setups. They express a desire for materials that include actual experimental examples rather than theoretical derivations. A notable recommendation provided is "Laser Spectroscopy" by Demtröder, which may offer the practical insights the user is looking for.

Hello! Can someone point me towards some good books about laser from a practical/experimental perspective (maybe even a review paper). Most books I found spend a lot of time going through derivations and theoretical concepts. I would like to go deeper into that, too, at a point, but for now I would like to know a bit more about when to use which laser and why in different experimental situations. I am mainly interested in atomic/molecular spectroscopy and I would like to understand better why do they use a given laser in given circumstances (e.g. why use a pulse vs a CW laser, how to scan the frequency of a laser, what is the best way to produce pulsed from CW for a given type of laser). It would be great if you can tell be about some books/papers in which they present actual experiments in which they used a certain laser, not just abstract concepts (which is what most books I found do). Thank you!

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
I’ve heard that in some countries (for example, Argentina), the curriculum is structured differently from the typical American program. In the U.S., students usually take a general physics course first, then move on to a textbook like Griffiths, and only encounter Jackson at the graduate level. In contrast, in those countries students go through a general physics course (such as Resnick-Halliday) and then proceed directly to Jackson. If the slower, more gradual approach is considered...
