Books on Quantum Logic and Computation

In summary, quantum logic is a mathematical framework used in quantum mechanics to describe systems at the quantum level. It is the basis for quantum computation, which uses qubits to potentially perform faster and more efficient calculations compared to classical computers. Unlike classical computation, quantum computation uses qubits that can exist in multiple states simultaneously. Some applications of quantum logic and computation include cryptography, simulation of quantum systems, and optimization problems. There are many recommended books on the subject, such as "Quantum Computing: A Gentle Introduction" and "Quantum Computing for Computer Scientists."

Hey there PF'ers. I'm looking for a nifty book or site on Quantum logic and Computation.

The sort of book like that would cover digital logic - jumps over all the explanations of underlying working and goes straight to logic and computation.

I know it's important, but I have done courses in quantum nanoelectronics, so any recommendations are appreciated.

1. What is quantum logic?

Quantum logic is a mathematical framework used to describe the behavior of systems at the quantum level, where classical logic does not apply. It involves the use of quantum mechanics and linear algebra to represent and manipulate information.

2. How does quantum logic relate to computation?

Quantum logic is the basis for quantum computation, which uses the principles of quantum mechanics to perform operations on quantum bits (qubits) instead of classical bits. This allows for the potential for faster and more efficient computation compared to classical computers.

3. What is the difference between classical and quantum computation?

Classical computation relies on classical bits, which can only exist in a state of either 0 or 1. Quantum computation, on the other hand, uses qubits which can exist in a superposition of multiple states simultaneously. This allows for the potential for more complex and efficient computations.

4. What are some applications of quantum logic and computation?

Quantum logic and computation have potential applications in fields such as cryptography, simulation of quantum systems, and optimization problems. They can also be used in machine learning, drug discovery, and other areas where complex calculations are needed.

5. Are there any recommended books on quantum logic and computation?

Yes, there are many books on quantum logic and computation that are highly recommended by experts in the field. Some popular titles include "Quantum Computing: A Gentle Introduction" by Eleanor Rieffel and Wolfgang Polak, "Quantum Computation and Quantum Information" by Michael Nielsen and Isaac Chuang, and "Quantum Computing for Computer Scientists" by Yanofsky and Mannucci.
