AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the potential purchase of an eMachines computer, which is noted for its appealing design and affordability, along with future upgrade possibilities. A concern raised involves a review suggesting that the computer may require the use of its original keyboard and mouse. However, it is clarified that there are no such restrictions on peripherals. The eMachines brand, now owned by Gateway, is criticized for using lower-quality components, which limits performance options like overclocking and upgrading the power supply for additional hardware. Overall, eMachines is viewed unfavorably compared to other brands, with Dell recommended as a superior alternative for those who prefer not to build their own computer.

I am new to the physics forums and this is my first post and it is sort of scary but hey.

I am looking at an emachines computer to buy. I like the look of it, it is well priced and seems to have possibilities to upgrade in the future. The one hangup is that i read on an online review that you have to use the keyboard and mouse that came with it. I was wondering if there is any way around this and why this might be. (any input on a brand/ model of computer would be helpful.)

here is a link it may be of some use to people who know what they are talking about.

kmbop53, welcome to physics forums.

I don't know what type of reviews you've read, but they don't restrict which keyboard/mouse you can use.

oh, thanks.ya it did seem weird. it was gunna be a deal breaker for me becuase i would definately like to get a different keyboard than the one that they supply.

E-machine IS gateway they bought the corp a few years ago
and use E as their cheap line

minus for cheaper M/B and lower end power supplys
so overclocking is out and adding a vidio card requires a new bigger power supply
but most mass market boxes are about the same deal

E-machines = garbage. I would not touch it with a 100 parsec pole :)

If you don't have the time for an own build, Dell is a LOT better.

In my discussions elsewhere, I've noticed a lot of disagreement regarding AI. A question that comes up is, "Is AI hype?" Unfortunately, when this question is asked, the one asking, as far as I can tell, may mean one of three things which can lead to lots of confusion. I'll list them out now for clarity. 1. Can AI do everything a human can do and how close are we to that? 2. Are corporations and governments using the promise of AI to gain more power for themselves? 3. Are AI and transhumans...
Thread 'ChatGPT Examples, Good and Bad'
I've been experimenting with ChatGPT. Some results are good, some very very bad. I think examples can help expose the properties of this AI. Maybe you can post some of your favorite examples and tell us what they reveal about the properties of this AI. (I had problems with copy/paste of text and formatting, so I'm posting my examples as screen shots. That is a promising start. But then I provided values V=1, R1=1, R2=2, R3=3 and asked for the value of I. At first, it said...
i am customizing a Linux distro [arch] into love os which I am building to impress my crush. I had an idea to integrate an ai model into the Linux system so it can speak like me but romantically. but I don't know what or how to do. I don't know the basic concept of Linux but yet I am customizing my os purely relying on chat gpt and perplexity. when i ask chat gpt about this it said to fine tune an ai model and integrate to the Linux distro and my friend said for the data to be fed to the ai...
