AI Thread Summary
To calculate the force generated by a person while holding an object with a mass of 0.37 kg and accelerating it upwards over a distance of 1.9 meters, one must apply the principles of energy conservation. The work done by the person is equal to the force exerted multiplied by the distance moved. The energy imparted to the object can be equated to the gravitational potential energy it gains when reaching a maximum height of 28.7 meters. By ignoring the weight force while the object is in hand, the focus remains solely on the force applied by the person. Understanding these concepts will help in solving similar problems effectively.

Homework Statement

A object has a mass of .37kg starts at rest in a persons hand.The person then accelerates the object at a constant rate straight up in the positive y direction over a displacement of 1.9 meters. The object is then released and travels to a maximum height of 28.7 meters.. What force was generated by the person while the object was in his hand? Answer in Newtons. ( note: when the object is in the persons hand, ignore the weight force,- just consider the only force on the object is supplied by the person)

I need someone to please show me the steps because my quiz is similar and have no idea where to begin.. I would appreciate steps and reasoning. Thanks

energy = force * distance

the energy given it over 1.9 m is equal to the energy gravity took from it over 28.7 m

umm thanks lol

TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
Thread 'Variable mass system : water sprayed into a moving container'
Starting with the mass considerations #m(t)# is mass of water #M_{c}# mass of container and #M(t)# mass of total system $$M(t) = M_{C} + m(t)$$ $$\Rightarrow \frac{dM(t)}{dt} = \frac{dm(t)}{dt}$$ $$P_i = Mv + u \, dm$$ $$P_f = (M + dm)(v + dv)$$ $$\Delta P = M \, dv + (v - u) \, dm$$ $$F = \frac{dP}{dt} = M \frac{dv}{dt} + (v - u) \frac{dm}{dt}$$ $$F = u \frac{dm}{dt} = \rho A u^2$$ from conservation of momentum , the cannon recoils with the same force which it applies. $$\quad \frac{dm}{dt}...
