AI Thread Summary
A chemical engineer can write a PhD dissertation on statistical mechanics, although direct applications in chemical engineering may not be widely recognized. The discussion highlights the difficulty in finding relevant resources and applications, particularly due to the lack of a PhD program at the user's university. The user expresses frustration over the limited guidance from their advisor, who specializes in a different field, and notes that online resources often require purchase. There is a call for links to useful websites and inquiries about Fluid Dynamics questions that could be approached from a chemical engineering perspective.

Ok can someone tell me if its possible for a chemical engineer to write his Phd dissertation about statistical mechanics? Does anyone have any links to useful websites? Also does anyone know any questions in Fluid Dynamics from Physics that may be solved in a Chemical Engineering Concept.

I've tried hard but couldn't find any direct applications of Stat.Mechs in Chemical Engineering.

Ask your advisor.

Hehe very funny...advisor doesn't know because he specializes in something completely different. Another thing, there's no phd program at my uni so the others don't know either. The internet hasnt been of much use either. Anything I found had to be purchased online.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
