Can Chem E students incorporate programming into their studies?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around selecting a fourth class for a fall schedule that includes Chemistry 1, Calculus 1, and an introductory engineering design course. The participant is seeking suggestions outside of Mechanics/Physics 1, considering options like programming classes, especially since they have already completed humanities and English requirements. They confirm that they do not need to fulfill a Biology course requirement, having completed physiology and anatomy. The conversation also touches on the role of programming in chemical engineering, questioning how extensively chemical engineers utilize programming skills in their work.

Here is my schedule for the fall.

Chem 1
Cal 1
intro to engineering design.

I need a fourth class that isn't Mechanics/physics 1. Any ideas?

What about your University requirements that are not related to you major? You need some humanities or history classes too don't you?

If you really want a STEM class, maybe a programming class.

I am in a Community college and I have already finished my humanities. I am also finished with my English. All there is left to do are math and sciences. Programming is an interesting one; don't know why I haven't thought of it? Any other suggestions?

Do you need to fulfill a Biology course requirement?

No. I've gone as far as physio/anatomy and I believe that's as far as required. Math, science and the designing classes are all there is left. I've never taken art, that's what some of my friends are taking.

Do chem Es actually program and if so, to what extent?

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
