Second black hole may lurk at Milky Way's heart

AI Thread Summary
Recent discussions highlight the possibility of a second black hole at the center of the Milky Way, alongside the known supermassive black hole. Observations suggest that the existing black hole is becoming active again, drawing in nearby stars. This activity raises questions about the dynamics between the two black holes, particularly how they might interact as the supermassive black hole gains strength. The implications for galactic evolution and star formation in the vicinity are significant. Understanding these interactions could provide deeper insights into the nature of black holes and their role in galaxy formation.

That is quite interesting indeed, I saw the special on television that explained about the super-massive black hole in the center of every galaxy and it had the moments when the found the one in the center of our galaxy etc. Well anyways, I recall that the special ended by them saying our black hole was starting up again, and that already stars were getting brought down upon it. This certainly DOES explain how it happened so suddenly, but I wonderm what will happen to this black hole as our supermassive black hole continues to gain strength?

Is a homemade radio telescope realistic? There seems to be a confluence of multiple technologies that makes the situation better than when I was a wee lad: software-defined radio (SDR), the easy availability of satellite dishes, surveillance drives, and fast CPUs. Let's take a step back - it is trivial to see the sun in radio. An old analog TV, a set of "rabbit ears" antenna, and you're good to go. Point the antenna at the sun (i.e. the ears are perpendicular to it) and there is...

Your posts, clips and photos may by all means include scientific information; that does not make it less beautiful to me (n.b. the posts must of course comply with the PF guidelines, i.e. regarding science, only mainstream science is allowed, fringe/pseudoscience is not allowed). n.b.
